The Toll-gate

A captain who finds a toll gate unattended and solves the mystery of the disappearance of the gate keeper and wins the heroine with the help of an robber. The future looks dim for big, handsome Captain John Staple after soldiering with the Dragoon Guards at Waterloo. But no sooner has he left the army and come upon a lonely toll-gate on the moors than he is plunged into all manner of hazards, excitement and romance.
